SAILING FROM FLORIDA’S SPACE COAST

PORT CANAVERAL
made easy.

The closest cruise port to Orlando, and the world’s busiest. Here’s how to get there, which terminal you’ll use and how to make sail day easy.

GETTING THERE

ON THE ROAD
to the ocean.

From Orlando airport (MCO)

About 45 miles and roughly 45 minutes east. Take the airport’s North Exit to SR 528 East (the Beachline, a toll road) straight to the port.

Use Exit 54A for the north-side terminals (CT5, CT6, CT8, CT10) or Exit 54B for the south side (CT1, CT3).

From Orlando & the parks

Visit Orlando calls the port about an hour from Orlando. Allow extra time for traffic and tolls, especially on weekend mornings.

Melbourne (MLB, 27 miles) and Orlando Sanford (SFB, 59 miles) airports are other options.

Rides & transfers

Uber and Lyft operate at the port, many local hotels run shuttles, and major rental car companies offer drop-off shuttles. Some cruise lines sell airport transfers too.

CRUISE TERMINALS

WHICH
terminal?

Port Canaveral has six cruise terminals split between the north (“A”) and south (“B”) sides of the harbor. Here’s who typically sails from where, based on the port’s official schedule for fall 2026 through early 2027.

Terminal assignments can change. Your cruise line’s boarding documents list your terminal. Always check them before you drive.

PARKING, DROP-OFF & THE NIGHT BEFORE

ARRIVE
relaxed.

Parking

Garages and lots sit right next to each terminal, with no shuttle needed. Parking is pay-on-entry and card-only, and the port doesn’t take reservations.

See official parking rates ↗

Arrive the day before

Cruise lines recommend building in a buffer: Royal Caribbean requires check-in at least 90 minutes before sailing, and late arrivals can be refused boarding. Flying in? Spend the night nearby.

Where to stay

Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral hotels sit minutes from the terminals, and many offer port shuttles. Orlando works too if you want a park day first.

EMBARKATION DAY

SAIL DAY,
step by step.

  1. Weeks before

    Check in online

Complete online check-in in your cruise line’s app, upload your photo and documents, and pick your terminal arrival time.

  2. Morning of

    Drive to your terminal

Head east on SR 528. Check the terminal on your boarding documents; assignments can change by sailing.

  3. At the curb

    Drop your bags

Porters take checked bags at the terminal. Keep documents, medications, swimsuits and chargers in your carry-on; bags can take hours to reach your stateroom.

  4. Your time slot

    Security & check-in

Arrive at your assigned time. Arriving early doesn’t mean boarding early, and you’ll board with your app pass or boarding pass.

  5. On board

    Lunch & safety briefing

Grab lunch, complete your line’s safety briefing (often on the app, plus a quick visit to your muster station) and explore.

  6. Sail away

    Wave goodbye to Florida

Find a spot on deck as the ship sails down the channel past Jetty Park and out to sea.

WHILE YOU’RE HERE

SPACE COAST
extras.

Kennedy Space Center

The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is a short drive from the port. It’s a great add-on day before or after your cruise.

Rocket launches

The Space Coast saw a record 109 launches in 2025, and ships at Port Canaveral have had front-row views. Schedules change often, so treat a launch as a lucky bonus.

Jetty Park & The Cove

Jetty Park has a beach, fishing pier and great views of ships sailing out. The Cove is the port’s waterfront dining area. (The Exploration Tower landmark there is currently closed.)

QUESTIONS

PORT
FAQ.

How far is Port Canaveral from Orlando airport?+

About 45 miles, roughly 45 minutes east via SR 528 (the Beachline, a toll road).

Which terminal does my ship use?+

Your boarding documents list it. Generally Royal Caribbean uses CT1, Carnival CT3 and Disney CT8, though Disney Wish uses CT10 on some sailings.

Can I reserve parking?+

No. Port parking is first-come, pay-on-entry and card-only. See official rates.

Should I arrive the day before?+

If you’re flying in, yes. A night nearby protects you from flight delays, and cruise lines won’t hold the ship for late guests.

Can I see a rocket launch from the ship?+

Sometimes! The Space Coast launches often, but schedules shift, so check the launch calendar close to your sailing.
